Anthony Lacavera in conversation with Amanda Lang With The Internet of Things and the Future of Canada’s Telecom Industry
Anthony Lacavera, Chairman and CEO of the Globalive Group and Wind Mobile, is a Canadian born telecom entrepreneur Anthony founded Globalive in 1998 and co founded Wind Mobile in 2008. In January, 2013 Anthony founded Globalive Capital to focus on accelerating early stage technology and telecommunications companies. Since 2000, the Globalive group has founded, seeded, financed, operated, and divested of a number of companies in the Internet, Communications, and Technology sectors. Under Anthony’s leadership, Globalive received numerous best in business awards, including first ranking on Profit Magazine’s 2004 list of Canada’s 100 fastest growing companies, Canada’s 30 Best Workplaces and Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies award, of which Globalive has been a recipient for 10 consecutive years. Anthony was named Canada’s CEO of the Year in 2010 by Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine, made the Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 list in 2006 and was publicized as one of the 50 Most Influential Torontonians by Toronto Life Magazine in 2013. Anthony was named an Honorary Fellow of St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto in 2012. The University of Toronto Engineering School, where Anthony graduated in 1997, welcomed Anthony to the Engineering School Hall of Distinction in 2013. In 2007, Anthony founded the SHAMBA foundation, a unique charity that assists other charities with fundraising and organizational efforts. The SHAMBA foundation raised nearly S1M for a variety of social and charitable causes.
Anthony is a founding supporter of the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Gallery Italia. Anthony is an aviation enthusiast and enjoys flying for both work and leisure. He also enjoys snow skiing, golf, personal fitness and staying active in the Arts community.
Amanda Lang, Senior Business Correspondent, CBC News, Host, Lang and O’Leary Exchange Award winning business journalist Amanda Lang is CBC’s senior business correspondent, reporting for its flagship nightly news program The National. She is also host of The Exchange with Amanda Lang, a daily business program airing on CBC News Network. She also occasionally anchors The National. Lang studied Architecture at the University of Manitoba, before becoming a journalist. Her first job in journalism was for the Globe and Mail, and subsequently Lang joined the Financial Post newspaper, where she became the paper’s New York correspondent. In New York she made the leap to television, where she first was part of the team that launched BNN and before long wound up at CNN as a reporter and anchor. She returned to Canada in 2002 to re join BNN, and has been with CBC since 2009. Her new book, The Power of Why, HarperCollins, October 2012, explores the connection between curiosity and success.
