The Empire Club of Canada Presents:
The Construction Sector Post COVID19: What is the “new normal”

During the Covid 19 pandemic, construction was unique in comparison to most sectors in that some elements were deemed essential, while others were not. While the dividing line between who was essential and who wasn’t was the source of controversy, for those operating, health and safety measures were put in place to secure sites and protect the workforce. As we move beyond the pandemic to re-opening our economy, what is the “new normal” for this sector? Are the existing health and safety measures enough? Should the construction sector scale up more quickly than the rest of the economy? Will construction projects be the path back to economic recovery and can the sector ramp up safely to meet this need?
