His Excellency Jean Marc Ayrault, Prime Minister of France

Born on January 25, 1950, in Maulévrier, Maineet Loire, Jean Marc Ayrault was appointed Prime Minister of France on May 15, 2012, by the President of the Republic of France, François Hollande. A member of the Socialist Party, Jean Marc Ayrault was the Mayor of the city of Nantes, Loire Atlantique, from 1989 to 2012. He was also the leader of the Socialist Party in the National Assembly for three terms between 1997 and 2012.

Mr. Ayrault started his political career as the Mayor of Saint Herblain, Loire Atlantique, from 1977 to 1989. In 1976, he was elected as General Councillor of Loire Atlantique, a position that he held until 1982. He served as representative of the Loire Atlantique departement to the National Assembly from 1986 to 1988 and as representative of Loire Atlantique’s third constituency from 1988 to 2012. In 1992. Mr. Ayrault was elected President of the agglomerated area of Nantes Métropole. In 2001, he was elected of the Urban Community of Nantes Metropole. He left this position in May 2012 to take office as Prime Minister.

Mr. Jean Marc Ayrault has a degree in German and a CAPES degree, which is a French degree by virtue of which he can teach German. Mr. Ayrault has been married to Brigitte Terrien since 1971. They have two daughters: Ysabelle and Elise.

Né le 25 janvier 1950 à Maulévrier , Maine et Loire, Jean Marc Ayrault est nommé Premier ministre le 15 mai 2012 par le Président de la République, François Hollande. Membre du Parti socialiste, Jean Marc Ayrault est élu, en 1977, Maire de la commune de Saint-Herblain, Loire Atlantique, qu’il administer jusqu’en 1989, année lors de laquelle il est élu Maire de Nantes, Loire Atlantique. Entre temps, M. Ayrault occupe les fonctions de Conseiller général de Loire Atlantique de 1976 à 1982, de Député de Loire Atlantique de 1986 à 1988 et de Député Loire Atlantique de 1988 à 2012. En 1992, il devient Président du District de l’agglomération nantaise jusqu’en 2001 puis est nommé Président de la Communauté urbaine de Nantes Métropole, fonction qu’il quitte en mai 2012 pour accepter le poste de Premier ministre. A l’Assemblée Nationale, Jean Marc Ayrault est élu Président du groupe socialiste, radical, citoyen et divers gauche, fonction qu’il occupe durant trois mandats jusqu’en 2012. Diplômé d’une licence et d’un Capes d’allemand, M. Ayrault est professeur d’allemand.

Jean Marc Ayrault est marié à Brigitte Terrien depuis 1971. Ils ont deux enfants : Ysabelle et Elise.
