Louis Vachon, President and CEO, National Bank Financial Group With Canadian Financial Services Landscape: Key Challenges And Opportunities

As President and Chief Executive Officer of National Bank Financial Group, a position he has held since June 2007, Louis Vachon is responsible for the strategies, orientations and development of the group and its subsidiaries. He is supported by a team of senior officers who with Mr. Vachon make up the Office of the President. At the time of his appointment, Mr. Vachon was Chief Operating Officer, a position he had held since July 2006. From January 2005 to July 2006, Louis Vachon was Chairman of the Board of National Bank Financial Group and of Natcan Investment Management. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of National Bank Financial.

Mr. Vachon began his career in 1986 at Levesque Beaubien. From 1990 to 1996, he worked for Bankers Trust, where he served, among other things, as President and Chief Executive Officer of its Canadian subsidiary, BT Bank of Canada. Mr. Vachon rejoined the bank in 1996 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Innocap Investment Management. A year later, he was appointed Senior Vice President, Treasury and Financial Markets.

Louis serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Montreal and Co-President of the major fundraising campaign of a Quebec hospital foundation.

Mr. Vachon holds a Master’s degree in International Finance from The Fletcher School (a Tufts and Harvard University cooperative graduate program), and a BA in Economics from Bates College. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. In 2002, Mr. Vachon was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.
