His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins in conversation with Anna Maria Tremonti on White Smoke: The Papal Conclave, A Personal View

In this unique event, Cardinal Collins will share insights on the March 2013 Papal Conclave and subsequently will discuss what it all means with CBC’s Anna Maria Tremonti. For anyone interested in the process behind one of the most significant historical events of our time, this discussion will provide a rare first hand account.

Born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, Thomas Collins was ordained a priest in 1973. He considered other paths, but was inspired by a high school English teacher who suggested he should consider the priesthood. He earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in English, later pursuing theological training in Rome. Specializing in the Book of Revelation, he earned his Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute and a Doctorate in Theology from Gregorian St. Paul, Alberta in 1997 and Archbishop of Edmonton in 1999. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Archbishop Collins the tenth Archbishop of Toronto in December 2006. On February 18, 2012, he was elevated to the College of Cardinals in Rome. Cardinal Collins was one of three Canadian cardinals that participated in the 2013 conclave to elect Pope Francis.

She also boasts extensive experience covering Canadian federal and provincial politics. Tremonti has won two Gemini Awards, and a Life Achievement Award from Women in Film and Television Toronto. Her awards for The Current include The New York Festival Gold for Best Talk Special Interview, bronze for Best Talk News Story Long Form, silver for International Programming, Talk Special, Host Driven; and Science in Society Journalism and South Asian Journalists Association, Best Special Project Kabul honours. Tremonti is a graduate of the Communications Studies program at the University of Windsor. She has honorary doctorates from the University of Windsor and Carleton University
